Poetry Open Mic Night

October 23 @ 5:30 pm

This month’s theme, A Nobel Legacy, honors the rich heritage and artistic journey inspired by our current exhibit: 50 Years of Art by Mark Neilson, a Swedish artist who has long called The Dalles home.

We invite poets, writers, and storytellers of all levels to share their work. Whether reading from finished books, sharing works-in-progress, or showcasing published and unpublished pieces. In honor of Mark Neilson’s Swedish heritage and the evening’s theme, we especially encourage pieces inspired by Swedish folklore and mythology– from mysterious forest trolls to ancient legends, or works sparked by Nobel Prize winners, scientific discoveries, and groundbreaking experiments.

We embrace all forms of poetry and prose. Participants are welcome to read several pieces, depending on length and time. Audience members are warmly encouraged to perform as well (though listening is just as welcome!), and printed poems will be available for anyone who would like to read.

We will also host a brief breakout session where you will be encouraged to write a short piece of your own on the spot—so please bring a pen and paper if you’d like to participate!

Participation, whether as a reader or a listener, is free of charge. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the power of language, myth, discovery, and local artistry!
