SUMMARY:Art Night! Art Swap!
DESCRIPTION:Join us once a month for a social evening of unguided art making. Participants will be encouraged to bring some supplies and a sketchbook to draw\, paint or doodle! We will provide paper\, pens and pencils and can provide prompts to get the creative juices flowing. \nHow this works is you can bring in used but clean usable arts and crafts supplies. This can be anything from paper\, paints\, brushes\, beads\, pencils etc. We will spread out the supplies on tables and people will be able to freely take what they’d like. This is meant to be a way for community members to redistribute art supplies to one another\, so if you don’t have supplies to bring that isn’t a problem feel free to come and see if there’s supplies you could use. \nWe will also have a station set up to create small spiral bound books out of unbound papers\, so if you have odds and ends of papers laying around that could be cut down and made into a small sketchbook feel free to bring that as well. \nDate: Wednesday January 7th \nTime: 6pm-8pm \nAge: 18+ \nCost: $5 \nLocation: Tokki Art Supply

SUMMARY:2-Day Plein Air in Gouache or Acrylic with Mike Hernandez
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Mike Hernandez for an immersive two-day plein air painting experience in the beautiful Hood River region. Known for his bold use of color and expressive brushwork\, Mike will be teaching primarily with gouache\, while encouraging participants to paint in whichever medium they feel most comfortable—gouache or acrylic. \nOver the course of two days\, participants will explore the fundamentals of plein air painting\, with a focus on simplifying shapes\, capturing light\, and developing strong compositions. Weather permitting\, we’ll paint outdoors in Hood River and the surrounding landscape\, with opportunities to capture the breathtaking views of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge in its rich autumn colors. \nIf the weather doesn’t cooperate\, the workshop will move indoors to a studio setting\, where Mike will guide students in using on-site sketches\, photos\, and memory to translate the plein air experience into finished studio paintings. Through demonstrations\, group discussions\, and one-on-one instruction\, you’ll gain new insight into building a painting from start to finish and learn how to infuse your work with clarity and atmosphere. \nThis workshop is designed for artists of all levels who want to improve their plein air skills\, discover the versatility of gouache\, and enjoy a supportive environment surrounded by Oregon’s inspiring natural beauty. \nMaterials are not included. Students will receive a 20% discount for materials purchased for this class. Stacy will guide you through mixing colors to achieve luminous flesh tones\, using cool and warm temperatures to create form and depth\, and developing expressive brushwork that brings portraits to life. \nDay 2 \nStart with additional photo studies before transitioning to painting directly from a live model.
