Michelle is a muralist and exhibiting artist with the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery\, known for her generous teaching style and 15+ years of experience guiding students in the fundamentals of art. Space is limited to 6 students so everyone can get plenty of one on one time with Michelle. \nCourse Overview \nThis series introduces the core principles of composition and design. Through slideshows\, discussion\, and guided exercises\, you’ll learn how to: \n\nThoughtfully plan your paintings before you begin\nUse “edges” to guide the viewer’s attention\nSimplify design for stronger\, more engaging artwork\n\nProject Focus \nStudents may choose to paint a classic Hood River sunset (images provided) or work on a personal project of their choice. DESCRIPTION:Join us once a month for a social evening of unguided art making. Participants will be encouraged to bring some supplies and a sketchbook to draw\, paint or doodle! We will provide paper\, pens and pencils and can provide prompts to get the creative juices flowing. \nThis Art Night will double as an Art Supply swap! \nIf you have art supplies collecting dust on a shelf and want to see them going to a new home come down and swap it! \nHow this works is you can bring in used but clean usable arts and crafts supplies. This can be anything from paper\, paints\, brushes\, beads\, pencils etc. We will spread out the supplies on tables and people will be able to freely take what they’d like. This is meant to be a way for community members to redistribute art supplies to one another\, so if you don’t have supplies to bring that isn’t a problem feel free to come and see if there’s supplies you could use. \nWe will also have a station set up to create small spiral bound books out of unbound papers\, so if you have odds and ends of papers laying around that could be cut down and made into a small sketchbook feel free to bring that as well. \nAnything left over will be donated to Nextdoor Youth Drop In Center in The Dalles. \nDate: Wednesday April 1st \nTime: 6pm-8pm \nAges: 18+ \nCost $5

This gently guided evening session invites you to cut\, layer\, and glue your way to new creations using magazines\, books\, and paper scraps. You’ll experiment with composition\, texture\, and storytelling through found imagery—all while connecting with other makers in a relaxed\, creative atmosphere. \nBring your favorite materials to make your collage truly your own! \nSuggested Materials to Bring: \n\nCollage materials (books\, magazines\, printed photos\, etc.)\nWashi tape\nA limited number of scissors\, X-Actos\, and cutting mats will be available for shared use.
