Follow along with instructor Ashley Stare with step-by-step instructions on how to create the selected animal\, or craft your own whimsical creature. We will aim to make 2 different animals\, decorate them with colorful underglazes\, and learn about adding high-temp wire. You will also learn how to create a strong connection between two pieces of clay\, and safe clean-up methods. Do you want to make a duck wearing a cowboy hat? You can! \nOnce pieces are finished\, they will be transported to the ceramics studio for two firings and will get two coats of clear glaze so they come out looking glossy. Completed work will be ready to pick up in roughly 3-5 weeks. SUMMARY:Cyanotype on Clothing
DESCRIPTION:Use the power of the sun to create curated botanical prints on your clothing using a photography technique called Cyanotype. Cyanotype predates the advent of modern photography and is able to capture details of items placed on the fabric when exposed to the sun. Students will use pre-treated pieces of cyanotype fabric to create the design then after the piece has dried\, students will return to Tokki for Day 2 where students will learn to sew their cyanotype piece to the clothing of their choice. \nPre-treated fabric will be provided and Lily will demonstrate the process of treating the fabric with the solution so students could try at home. A collection of items to use to create your design will be provided. Feel free to bring objects (dried plants\, flowers\, lace etc) to use in class. \nAll materials provided\, please bring an article of clothing that you would like to add your cyanotype to. Weather permitting\, we’ll paint outdoors in Hood River and the surrounding landscape\, with opportunities to capture the breathtaking views of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge in its rich Spring colors. \nIf the weather doesn’t cooperate\, the workshop will move indoors to a studio setting\, where Mike will guide students in using on-site sketches\, photos\, and memory to translate the plein air experience into finished studio paintings.
