SUMMARY:Cocaine Yogi: My Reluctant Spiritual Journey | A Night with Comedian Andie Main
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tickettomato.com/event/9836 \nUsing the chakras as a mile marker for her journey\, Andie Main tells the story of how she went from being a punk-rock coke dealer\, to an alcoholic stand-up comic\, to a now sober and disabled yoga teacher. \nIn this darkly comedic solo show\, she discusses the cosmic struggle of practicing yoga while suffering from a fused spine brought on by the rare disease Ankylosing Spondylitis. \nIn her latest hour\, she has constructed a deeply personal\, yet universal story that explores the mysteries of the universe\, and also that one time she knocked two people over in yoga. \nAndie Main is a stand up comedian now based in Portland OR\, after living in Denver and New York City. She has two albums available for streaming\, produced by the darlings at Blonde Medicine Records; Magpie and Rocky Mountain Bi. \nShe has opened for some of the best comics ever like Kyle Kinane\, Dave Hill\, Natasha Leggero\, Moshe Kasher\, Russell Peters\, and Janeane Garafalo. She’s also performed in many esteemed festivals across the country like Bumbershoot\, Sketchfest and Red Clay Comedy Festival. \nWhen she’s not on stage\, she can be found hiking around the woods with her dog Sadie\, teaching a yoga class\, or going on terrible first dates which she will ruthlessly mine for material. \nDoors open at 6:30pm. 18+. Indoor show. Pets not allowed. Tickets are non-refundable. Questions? Email gorgespeakeasy@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Volcano Listening Project
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.\, shows at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. PDT. (If the event is sold out\, unclaimed seats will be released to the waitlist fifteen minutes prior to the show.) \nWhere: Columbia Center for the Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave.\, Hood River\, OR 97031 \nSTORY: Volcanic eruptions can perturb global climate\, build mountains\, and reshape human civilizations. They can be deadly\, but the deep roots of volcanoes also provide a foundry for critical minerals that enable modern society. In these ways and others\, volcanoes have inspired scientists and artists alike for thousands of years. The Volcano Listening Project explores connections between scientific research and artistic perspectives of volcanoes\, developing tools to represent data through sound that draw equally from data science\, volcanology\, and new music. ‘Sonification’\, the display of data using sound\, provides a powerful way to understand complex signals such as are emerging with new monitoring capabilities and can enable volcano science. In equal part\, sonification of volcanic data can trigger an emotional response\, and thus lead to compelling music. This program will showcase volcano music and the science behind it\, led by University of Oregon professor/violinist Leif Karlstrom and featuring an ensemble of internationally recognized musicians: Todd Sickafoose\, Idit Shner\, Adam Roskiewicz\, and Jonny Rodgers. Featuring composer\, Marc Evanstein. \nAbout the Performers:\n\nLeif Karlstrom came from a family of professional musicians and earth scientists\, and has built a career in both domains. As a violinist he toured nationally and internationally with the bluegrass band Front Country and Small Town Therapy. As a scientist he is an associate professor at the University of Oregon\, where he runs a research group that studies volcanic processes from current activity at Kilauea volcano to climate-altering Large Igneous Province events. He started the Volcano Listening Project in 2023. \n\nTodd Sickafoose is a composer\, producer\, and bassist widely known for his work with Ani DeFranco (since 2004) as well as in jazz ensembles with the likes of Adam Levy\, Jenny Scheinman\, Nels Cline\, and Allison Miller\, as well as his own group. His work orchestrating and producing music for the Broadway musical Hades Town earned him a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater album and a Tony award for Best Orchestration. \n \nIdit Shner is professor of saxophone and jazz studies at the University of Oregon\, with an active performing and recording career across genres that includes commissioned premieres of new music nationally and internationally. She leads her jazz quartet in the Pacific Northwest and is an award-winning teacher. \nJonny Rodgers is a musician and composer known for his work as Cinder Talk and numerous film scores. He has received accolades from The NY Times for developing and performing a unique tuned glass orchestra instrument. \nAdam Roszkiewicz is a musician and composer known for his guitar and mandolin work with the Modern Mandolin Quartet (with whom has was nominated for a Best Chamber Music Performance Grammy Award)\, the Ger Mandolin Orchestra\, Front Country\, and Small Town Therapy. \nAbout Sense of Place: \n  \n \nFor 16-years\, Sense of Place has connected people through place and storytelling. \nOur flagship speaker series features people with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge and who consider the natural and cultural history that has shaped this place. Guests have included: scientists\, tribal members\, authors\, farmers\, and many others from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The stories shared deepen our understanding of the Gorge and strengthen our connection to the landscape and to each other. \nLearn more about Sense of Place and check out our online archive and past events HERE. \nFor more information\, visit senseofplacegorge.org or follow on Instagram @senseofplacegorge. Subscribe to the Sense of Place Newsletter for event updates and behind-the-scenes stories. \nSense of Place is a program of Mt. Adams Institute\, which provides programs that\nstrengthen the connection between people and the natural world through\neducation\, service\, career development\, and research.

SUMMARY:BARN BURNER: Chicken $#!T Gamblers /Band of Comerados
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, January 31st\, 2026 \n$17 Advance // $25 Day Of Show\n6pm Doors / 7pm Show\n21+ \nBARN BURNER shows are all about the dancing! No matter who might be on the stage\, you are guaranteed to groove. \nCHICKEN $#!T GAMBLERS\nMysterious and uncool\, the Chicken $#!t Gamblers\nreject conformity and curb appeal in favor of ludicrousness and frivolity. Armed only with stringed instruments\, internal metronomes and a thesaurus\, the unhinged and raunchy gang of miscreants spread\, weird\, pseudo-traditional\, originally crafted bluegrass tunes\, with a dash of old-timey gospel\, vintage Shakedown Street vibes\, country sass and deep\, $#!t-yer-pants intergalactic improvisation. No genre is safe from their reign of audacity. Biologically grown\, woodshed cultivated\, scientifically inspired\, emotionally attached\, filthy and kind bluegrass inspired stuffing for your soundholes. \nBAND OF COMERADOS\nRyan McMahon – Mandolin\, Vocals\nDevon James – Guitar\, Vocals\nKyle Donaldson – Guitar\, Vocals\nJeffrey Leppert – Upright Bass \nJam/Grass/Folk from Portland\, OR \n“It’s rare to find an album these days that fits every occasion\, but Grass Half Full is exactly that. Equal parts intimate and expansive\, Band of Comerados delivers a timeless work that expertly rides the line between\nwistful nostalgia for what was and unflinching optimism for what is. \nSeamlessly transitioning between songwriting styles throughout the hour long offering\, Grass Half Full is the band’s most true album to date. Faithful fans will be rewarded with a collection of songs that capture BoC’s live energy\, and new devotees will be captured by their charm and surprised at the places this band takes them.” – Chris Couch \nSince 2015 and extending far into the future\, Band of Comerados plays music that makes you feel good. Call it bluegrass\, jamgrass\, folk\, or indie\, what sets the band apart is their intricate instrumentation\, dual vocal parts\, intense improvisational jams\, and the fact that these guys have so much damn fun when they’re playing live music! \nIn between traveling up and down the west coast in 2022\, BoC managed record two albums. Grass Half Full is the newest full length album\, containing 11 songs. These road tested tunes were captured perfectly at Jackpot! Studio in SE Portland. The album was released in June 2023. With Friends Like These included a bevy of Portland’s finest musicians helping create ambitious\, full-band EP that was released on Halloween 2022\, and follows previous releases Kindsight (2020)\, Trial & Error (2019)\, and Tomorrow is Today (2017). \nFrom their inception around campfire jams\, Band of Comerados has come a long way. Earning their stripes at dive bars\, breweries\, block parties\, and house concerts in their hometown of Portland\, Oregon\, the band began to get a foothold in some of the city’s finest venues\, like Laurelthirst\, White Eagle\, Goodfoot\, Aladdin Theatre\, Wonder Ballroom\, Mississippi Studios\, The Get Down and more. Expanding their fanbase\, they traveled up and down the west coast from Southern California to Northern Washington\, and east through Idaho\, Utah\, and Arizona. Festival appearances include What the Festival!?\, Beltane Music Festival\, 4 Peaks Music Festival\, Northwest String Summit\, Gem & Jam\, Homegrown Gorge and others.
