SUMMARY:Noise Ordinance | A Ski and Snowboard Film & Live Music Tour
DESCRIPTION:A film tour of curated ski and snowboard films played to live musical performances.\nAll proceeds will be donated to the organization Climbers of Color \nFilms:\nSierra to Baker – Stratton Matteson & Tyndall Wells \n\nSierra to Baker follows Stratton Matteson and friends on a 2000 mile long bike to board journey from the Sierra Nevada to the northern reaches of the Cascades. Over 100 days they pedaled between snowboard descents in the Sierra’s and all of the most prominent Cascade volcanoes. It’s a story that blends taking responsibility for stewarding a healthy environment and the pure joy of human powered adventure shared with friends.\n\nThat Wind Still Blows – Noah Casey & Sean Malloy \n\nFrom a car window\, a child glimpses a distant mountain peak—a moment that ignites a lifelong fascination with untouched backcountry lines. That Wind Still Blows moves fluidly between past and present\, tracing the cyclical rhythms of snowboarding and life itself.\n\nLines – Mallory Duncan & Josh Goldsmith \n\nThere’s a tense moment before every grand performance where apprehension turns to belief\, and preparation meets presentation. Lines follows the interwoven journey of a skier and a rapper as they navigate this moment\, on stages of their own composition.\n\nForm – Xander & Jordan Guldman \n\nForm is a short film that explores the intersection of skiing and jazz\, with an emphasis on creativity and improvisation. This project brings together three individuals who grew up in the same hometown\, shaped by the granite slabs and juniper trees of Donner Summit\, who have stepped into three distinct career paths: professional skiing\, jazz music\, and filmmaking. Paying homage to their shared roots and highlighting the differences between their respective crafts\, Form pushes its three principal members into a new creative space.\n\nLive Music:\nTrinity Jane \nChima The Stubborn \nJordan Guldman

SUMMARY:Mostly Mushrooms: What I Discovered When I Fell in Love with Fungi w/Krista Cushman
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 6:00 p.m.\, show from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. PDT. (If the event is sold out\, unclaimed seats will be released to the waitlist at 6:45 p.m.) \nWhere: Columbia Center for the Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave.\, Hood River\, OR 97031 (All ticket-holders also get access to the livestream) \nSTORY: \nThe forests of the Columbia River Gorge are bursting with hidden life\, much of it under our feet. Beneath the moss and soil\, vast fungal networks connect and sustain the ecosystems we depend on. Yet many of us were taught to fear or ignore mushrooms\, seeing them only as dangerous or strange. In truth\, fungi are neither plants nor animals but their own extraordinary kingdom\, one that decomposes\, heals\, nourishes\, and inspires. Join Krista Cushman for a journey into the world of fungi\, from the mycelium threads weaving through our forests to the seasonal beauty of local mushrooms. Along the way\, she will share her own path from curiosity to connection\, explore the ecological roles of fungi\, and reveal some of the Columbia Gorge’s most intriguing fungal treasures. You may leave seeing the forest and its hidden kingdom through entirely new eyes. \nAbout the Speaker:\nKrista Cushman has spent over a decade exploring and sharing the world of mushrooms and fungi through community science and education. She earned her master’s degree from Lewis and Clark College and teaches fifth grade in Hood River\, where she lives with her husband\, their daughters Bennie and Edie\, and their dog\, Sal. Krista weaves her passion for fungi into her teaching\, guiding\, community education\, and hours spent wandering the forests between Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood in her home\, the Columbia River Gorge. \nAbout Sense of Place: \nFor 16-years\, Sense of Place has connected people through place and storytelling. \nOur flagship speaker series features people with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge and who consider the natural and cultural history that has shaped this place. Guests have included: scientists\, tribal members\, authors\, farmers\, and many others from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The stories shared deepen our understanding of the Gorge and strengthen our connection to the landscape and to each other. \nLearn more about Sense of Place and check out our online archive and past events HERE. \nFor more information\, visit senseofplacegorge.org or follow on Instagram @senseofplacegorge. Subscribe to the Sense of Place Newsletter for event updates and behind-the-scenes stories. \nSense of Place is a program of Mt. Adams Institute\, which provides programs that strengthen the connection between people and the natural world through education\, service\, career development\, and research.

SUMMARY:Pressure Drop: a film by Teton Gravity Research hosted by LDT Wines
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 13th\, 2025 \n$15 Advance // $15 Day Of Show **Limited Tickets**6pm Doors / 7pm ShowAll Ages \nPRESSURE DROP \nPressure Drop is the latest chapter in a 30-year journey—forged from a dream\, fueled with cash from commercial fishing in Alaska\, and driven by an obsession with life on the edge. \nThis film follows the world’s best skiers and snowboarders\, alongside the next generation\, through Alaskan spines\, stacked pillow lines\, massive cliffs\, giant couloirs\, deep powder\, and insane jumps. From Norway to British Columbia\, California to Alaska\, and home in Jackson Hole\, Wyoming\, each line becomes a brushstroke in the art of descent. \nPressure Drop captures that fleeting space between calm and chaos—when breath slows\, vision sharpens\, and the mountain demands everything. It’s the moment before gravity takes over. \nFor three decades\, we’ve stood at the edge—where fear meets flow and everything else fades. Pressure Drop continues the tradition of what it means to dedicate your life to the fall line.

SUMMARY:The Fretliners / Tillinghast Mtn Trio
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 14th\, 2025 \n$22 Advance // $25 Day Of Show6pm Doors / 7pm ShowAll Ages \nTHE FRETLINERS \nIt is rare for there to exist a defining moment that changes the trajectory of four lives at once. But\, clear as a lightning bolt in an open field\, so electric was the moment The Fretliners first played together around a single microphone in the Cloverlick banjo shop barn one fateful evening\, they knew they would be inseparable from that moment on. \nThe Fretliners are a genuine and powerful bluegrass quartet recognized for their songwriting and undeniable chemistry. Their newfound camaraderie produces an energy that is as infectious on stage as it is on record. So much so that in the summer of 2023\, they won both band competitions at Telluride Bluegrass and Rockygrass Festivals—a feat that had only been accomplished once before. That September\, they released their debut eponymous album to acclaim and adoration. \n With one eye on the rear-view\, inspired by that traditional high lonesome sound\, The Fretliners navigate a road less traveled into the peaks of Rocky Mountain original bluegrass. \nTILLINGHAST MTN TRIO \nA Tillinghast Mtn Trio show involves deft songwriting\, smoking lead guitar\, improvisational cello\, and usually a healthy dose of off-beat humor. “Richard Tillinghast is a poet; he has traveled America and abroad with his senses open and attuned and has distilled many thoughts\, impressions and feelings into beautiful\, restless verse in song.” (Dave Horner\, Creative Loafing SC). Richard was a finalist in the Ozark Folk Festival 2024 songwriter contest. \nTova Tillinghast is a classically trained cellist and has performed with the Walla Walla Symphony\, Whitman College Symphony\, and the Columbia Gorge Sinfonietta. “A guitar and banjo playing singer-songwriter with a classically trained cellist is not an obvious choice\, but it’s a musical marriage that works beautifully.” (Rodger Nichols\, The Dalles Chronicle OR). \nLuke Maddox brings lead guitar and strong harmonies to the Trio. He is well known in the Columbia Gorge as band leader for Roux Dio and guitar picker for local favorites Chicken$#it Gamblers.

SUMMARY:Cello Concerto Collage with the Gorge Sinfonietta
DESCRIPTION:What’s more exciting than a cello concerto played by a virtuoso musician? How about three of them? That’s what is in store for audiences as the Gorge Sinfonietta presents its November concerts\, Cello Concerto Collage. The concerts feature three members of the Sinfonietta in solo roles. Principal cellist Michelle Edwards will perform the first movement of Elgar’s beloved concerto\, Aaron Young will be featured in the Dvorak cello concerto\, and Annie Harkey will perform the first movement of Haydn’s classical concerto in C. \nConductor Mark Steighner says the concert is unique in many ways. “We’ve never featured three concertos in the same concert\, let alone three cellists. Although we’re performing movements from three different composers\, the format follows a typical concerto structure of fast\, slow and fast movements.” \n“We have so many talented and accomplished musicians in the orchestra\,” Steighner said\, “and this is a way to highlight more than one.” \nIt isn’t the first time the orchestra has put together a hybrid work. “A few years ago we stitched together a symphony that included movements by Bruckner and Brahms\, two 19th century contemporaries who definitely didn’t agree on musical style. We called it a “Frankensymphony.”” \nIn addition to the cello feature\, the concert includes the Prelude to Act 1 of Die Meistersinger by Richard Wagner. Steighner explained that this piece was the very first one he conducted with the orchestra at his inaugural concert in 2005. Steighner is retiring as conductor after this season. \nThe concert will be rounded out by the extremely well-known and popular Suites from Carmen by Georges Bizet. “The Carmen Suites probably have more recognizable melodies-per-minute than any other pieces.” \nThe Cello Concerto Collage concerts are Friday\, November 14 at 7PM and Sunday\, November 16 at 2 PM at the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center\, 3000 Wy’east Rd in Odell. Tickets and information about CGOA can be found at gorgeorchestra.org. CGOA offers free tickets for kids and students (high school and college IDs at the door)\, plus discounted tickets ($5 at the door) for SNAP card holders through the Arts for All program. \nThe concert kicks off the orchestra’s series of performances in CGOA’s 20th Anniversary Season which also includes performances with the Voci Community Choir in April\, and a Piano Summit concert in June\, featuring soloists Kathy Apland and Mitchell Jett Spencer. \nThe Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and presenting musical performances of the highest quality in the Columbia River Gorge region. With a commitment to artistic excellence and education\, CGOA brings the joy of music to audiences of all ages.
