SUMMARY:White Salmon Backyard Half Marathon and 4 Mile
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the scenic vistas and gorgeous trails on the hills above White Salmon.  \nThe gun goes off at 9:00 am for both the 4 mile and half marathon race. \nThis event is a fundraiser for our White Salmon Cross Country Boosters. We suggest a donation of $35 or more. Booster Club funds help the Columbia High School Cross Country team go to running camp\, compete in an amazing races around the Northwest\, purchase shoes for runners in financial need\, and much more. Additional donations and donations less than $35 will be available at the race. \nREGISTRATION/START/FINISH:Registration and the Start/Finish will be at Rheingarten Park at N. Main Ave and NW Lincoln St. \n7:00 am check-in and day of registration opens. \n8:55 am is the pre-run meeting at the start line\, which will be on Washington St. and N Main Ave. \nBoth the 1/2 Marathon and the 4 Mile Race begin at the same time and place!If you drop out please check in at the finish line so we know you are safe! \nCOURSE:The course involves a challenging climb and descent with gorgeous views of the Columbia River. The course will be marked with flour and orange surveyors tape. \nThe trail portion of the 1/2 Marathon course is about 12.3 miles and is a big lollipop. \nThe trail portion of the 4 mile course is about 2.5 miles and is a small loop on hilly terrain with gorgeous views! \nThe road portion of the course is around a mile each way\, to get you to and from the trail. The road portion of both races starts at the corner of NW Washington St and N Main Ave. Head east on Washington St then south on Snohomish until you reach Tohomish St. You will follow this until its end and take a hard left onto Park ave. From there you will drop into the trail system. You will be returning from another trail right back onto Tohomish and head back west to Rhinegarten Park via the same route you took out.  \nNo dogs are allowed. \nThere will be 3 aid stations and an additional “light” aid station with 3 miles left in the race. The first full aid station is about 30 to 40 minutes from the start depending on how quick you are. Make sure to bring a water bottle. Especially if it is hot! \nDAY OF REGISTRATION:You can still register for the race at the start line!!! See you there!

DESCRIPTION:This is an in depth workshop taught by Marcy Huteson for the gouache beginner or more seasoned gouache artist who wants to learn the ins and outs of the medium. \nOn the first day we will be going over all the basics\, from materials\, color mixing\, blending\, textural techniques\, creating a cohesive color palette and composition\, with a gouache floral demo. We’ll end the first day by choosing our main floral elements for our final piece and sketching it out. \nThe second day will be focused solely on creating a 9”x12” gouache floral painting with guidance the whole way through. \nDates: Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th \nTime: 11am-1pm each day \nAges: 14+ \nCost: $90 \nLocation: Tokki Art Supply Classroom 208 4th st\, Hood River \nIf you cannot attend a class\, a 72 hour notice prior to the start of the class via email or phone is required for a full refund of the class fee. After that there is no refund. \nStudents will receive a confirmation email of the purchase of the class. DESCRIPTION:The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association \n20th Anniversary Season \nPiano Summit \nGorge Sinfonietta with Kathryn Apland and Mitchell Jett Spencer\, soloists \nThursday and Saturday\, June 18  and 20  at 7 PM\, Sunday June 21 at 2 PM \nWy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center \nOver the past twenty years\, the Gorge Sinfonietta has presented hundreds of concerts featuring a wide spectrum of music\, from beloved classics to exciting new compositions. Two of the most memorable concerts featured Kathryn Apland playing the Grieg Piano Concerto\, and Mitchell Jett Spencer performing Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. For its final concert of the 2025-26 Season\, the Sinfonietta has invited both soloists to return in a concert called “Piano Summit.” \nConductor Mark Steighner said that the concert’s title has two meanings. “In the world of geopolitics or business\, a summit brings together talented people to share ideas. But of course the other meaning is the apex\, the top of the mountain. This music is the absolute summit of late 19th century Romanticism and piano virtuosity.” \nSteighner said that having two piano concertos on one program is pretty rare\, and something the Sinfonietta has never done. Mitchell Jett Spencer will be performing Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini\, which takes the listener on a complex\, dazzling musical journey that’s filled with romance\, drama and humor. \nKathryn Apland will perform Franz Liszt’s Totentanz\, which is also a theme and variations\, but based on an ancient Gregorian chant melody\, the Dies Irae\, or “Day of Anger.” Totentanz is one of the composer’s most dramatic\, progressive and genuinely surprising works. In many ways it foreshadows later 20th century composers like Bartok.” \nSteighner said\, “I am in awe of both Kathy and Mitch’s technical skills\, their deep musical understanding and their willingness to take on these incredibly difficult challenges. I guarantee audiences will be impressed.” \nThe program will be rounded out by Johannes Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture and an excerpt from Gustav Mahler’s Third Symphony. \n“Mahler is one of my absolute favorite composers\,” Steighner said. “I’ve been listening to his music since I was in high school or before. The Sinfonietta has never played any music by Mahler because it’s too big\, usually requiring an immense orchestra. But I couldn’t step away from the podium without doing at least a little bit.” \nThe Piano Summit concerts will be Steighner’s last performance with the orchestra. He will be retiring after founding CGOA and its ensembles twenty years ago. Steighner’s replacement will be Lars Campbell\, recently hired after an exhaustive search. Campbell is the longtime director of the Clackamas Community College Wind Ensemble and a professional trombonist\, having performed with the Oregon Symphony and Seattle Symphony. \n“Lars will helm the Sinfonietta for an exciting new chapter in its development\,” Steighner said. “I’m pleased he was willing and able to join us.” \nThe recent performances of Roads Not Taken were entirely sold out\, so Steighner urges audiences to buy tickets well in advance. The concerts will be Thursday\, June 18 and Saturday\, June 20 at 7 PM\, and Sunday\, June 21 at 2 PM. Based in California and travelling the world from Japan\, his original genre blends world music\, jazz\, folk\, rock\, and even classical. DESCRIPTION:If you’ve been curious about creating one of a kind handmade clay pieces\, give air dry clay a try! Students in this class will create a tray and/or a wall display with instructor Lily Carey. She will guide students through the process of working with clay\, creating slabs and attaching features to their pieces. \nThis is a two day class. Students will return to Tokki once their pieces are dry to paint and seal their masterpieces with acrylic paint and varnish. All materials provided. \nDate: Fridays June 19th and June 26th \nTime: 6pm-7:30pm \nAges: 12+ \nCost: $75 \nLocation: Tokki Art Supply Classroom 208 4th st\, Hood River \nIf you cannot attend a class\, a 72 hour notice prior to the start of the class via email or phone is required for a full refund of the class fee. After that there is no refund. \nStudents will receive a confirmation email of the purchase of the class.
