DESCRIPTION:This is an in depth workshop taught by Marcy Huteson for the gouache beginner or more seasoned gouache artist who wants to learn the ins and outs of the medium. \nOn the first day we will be going over all the basics\, from materials\, color mixing\, blending\, textural techniques\, creating a cohesive color palette and composition\, with a gouache floral demo. SUMMARY:White Salmon Backyard Half Marathon and 4 Mile
DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy the scenic vistas and gorgeous trails on the hills above White Salmon.  \nThe gun goes off at 9:00 am for both the 4 mile and half marathon race. \nThis event is a fundraiser for our White Salmon Cross Country Boosters. We suggest a donation of $35 or more. Booster Club funds help the Columbia High School Cross Country team go to running camp\, compete in an amazing races around the Northwest\, purchase shoes for runners in financial need\, and much more. Additional donations and donations less than $35 will be available at the race. \nREGISTRATION/START/FINISH:Registration and the Start/Finish will be at Rheingarten Park at N. Main Ave and NW Lincoln St. \n7:00 am check-in and day of registration opens. \n8:55 am is the pre-run meeting at the start line\, which will be on Washington St. and N Main Ave. \nBoth the 1/2 Marathon and the 4 Mile Race begin at the same time and place!If you drop out please check in at the finish line so we know you are safe! \nCOURSE:The course involves a challenging climb and descent with gorgeous views of the Columbia River. The course will be marked with flour and orange surveyors tape. \nThe trail portion of the 1/2 Marathon course is about 12.3 miles and is a big lollipop. \nThe trail portion of the 4 mile course is about 2.5 miles and is a small loop on hilly terrain with gorgeous views! \nThe road portion of the course is around a mile each way\, to get you to and from the trail. The road portion of both races starts at the corner of NW Washington St and N Main Ave. Head east on Washington St then south on Snohomish until you reach Tohomish St. You will follow this until its end and take a hard left onto Park ave. From there you will drop into the trail system. You will be returning from another trail right back onto Tohomish and head back west to Rhinegarten Park via the same route you took out.  \nNo dogs are allowed. \nThere will be 3 aid stations and an additional “light” aid station with 3 miles left in the race. The first full aid station is about 30 to 40 minutes from the start depending on how quick you are. Make sure to bring a water bottle. Especially if it is hot! \nDAY OF REGISTRATION:You can still register for the race at the start line!!! See you there!

On the first of April last year\, Michael Hurley\, folk legend and indispensable presence in the Portland music scene\, died at the age of eighty-three. “I was absolutely gutted\,” says Alela\, who didn’t just revere Hurley but knew him well. She performed in a tribute show for Hurley\, and in that collective mourning\, found solace and inspiration. “It was an epiphany to realize how much I missed my community. I felt very clear about what I wanted in that moment—I want to be alive. I want to see live music. I want to play it.” \nThough she’d taken the solo route on her last handful of releases\, Alela was interested in a new way forward. Plucking the day away in the attic of her 1892 Victorian home\, she found new songs flickering in the dusty light—and a desire to play them with people.  \nAlela met drummer Danny Austin-Manning at Clay Street Studios one night and he introduced her to co-producer Sam Weber (Madison Cunningham\, Anna Tivel). Along with Sebastian Owens on bass\, they recorded fifteen songs in less than five days—all live in the very attic where she wrote them. Anna Tivel contributed backing vocals and violin. Peter Lalish\, of the band Lucius\, added guitar. Fellow Pacific Northwesterners Kati Claborn and Luke Ydstie of Blind Pilot and AC Sapphire provided overdubs of all kinds. Alela’s vision for uninhibited music and revived\, creative kinship thrust her into a new season. \nThe result is an 11-track set ranging from lulling to raw to cinematic\, with Alela’s mellifluous voice a lively and affecting instrument throughout. The lyrics reveal an artist with the particular kind of strength required to face pain without getting lost—an ability Alela has honed over a lifetime of songwriting\, during which her lustrous discography has garnered major critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork\, NPR Music\, The Guardian\, and plenty more. This year’s tour features work by George Balanchine\, Ben Stevenson\, Artistic Director\, Dani Rowe\, OBT2 Director\, Dominic Walsh and company dancers\, Leigh Goldberger and Lauren Flower. \n  \nOregon Ballet Theatre presents OBT2\nOBT2\, Oregon Ballet Theatre’s second company\, is made up of 12-15 dancers who serve as ambassadors to the community while furthering their training under the direction of OBT2 Director Dominic Walsh. They perform throughout the Pacific Northwest as part of their annual spring tour. They also understudy and perform professional company roles throughout the season in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker® and other large-scale productions. OBT2 dancers also perform in the annual program OBT by Design\, which features world premieres choreographed for OBT2 by the artists of OBT.
