SUMMARY:Community Gathering & Mutual Support in Response to the Epstein Files
DESCRIPTION:This gathering is for collective healing & engagement in response to the Epstein Files. \n\n\nMany are feeling horrified and disoriented about what has come to light and how this is not being adequately addressed in public spaces. No arrests\, no accountability. The information is changing every day. New world events are creating more confusion and chaos. \n\n\nHow do we stay grounded\, well-informed\, and take care of our bodies & minds as we process our collective shock and confusion? And how do we speak up in the face of the calculated gaslighting & take meaningful\, realistic action to repair and protect? \n\nThese problems stay intact when we stay quiet and isolated. This is an offering to come together and use your voice. \n\nThe intention for the gathering is to nourish our minds and hearts through mutual support and connection.  This is not a political event. It’s for healing and solidarity against all sexual violence. We will light candles\, speak some words of prayer\, dialogue and offer a gentle practice to center in our hearts in order to care for our nervous systems and our mental health. \nIf you are seeking support in these ways or others concerning this topic\, join us. \n\nDetails: Sunday March 15th\, 4-6pm\, Flow Yoga (1015 12th ST Hood River)

SUMMARY:Rattlesnakessssss: Shedding the Myths to Meet the Snake with Adrian Slade
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 6:00 p.m.\, show from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. PDT. \n(If the event is sold out\, unclaimed seats will be released to the waitlist at 6:45 p.m.) \nWhere: Columbia Center for the Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave.\, Hood River\, OR 97031 (All ticket-holders also get access to the livestream) \nSTORY:\nThey’re almost invisible\, blending into the basalt and bunchgrass. Most of us never see one—but when we do\, it’s unforgettable. In the Columbia River Gorge\, northern pacific rattlesnakes quietly go about their lives beneath our feet\, helping control rodent populations and supporting the balance of local food webs. So why do these shy\, gentle animals inspire so much fear? And what do we lose when we let myths shape our relationship with them? \nJoin wildlife ecologist Adrian Slade for a closer look at the Gorge’s only venomous reptile. Discover their fascinating biology\, annual rhythms\, complex social lives\, and strong fidelity to den sites passed down through generations. Learn how they respond to wildfire\, habitat changes\, and human pressures—and how their presence signals a healthy landscape. \nWhether you’re a hiker\, land steward\, or just snake-curious\, this talk will offer practical tips for coexisting with rattlesnakes and a deeper appreciation for their subtle yet vital presence on the landscape. Let go of fear and meet the rattlesnake as it truly is: not a villain\, but a neighbor.\n*Adrian will be bringing live snakes for viewing as part of the in-person presentation. \nAbout the Speaker: \nAdrian Slade is a naturalist and herpetologist based in Central Washington\, where she has spent the past decade observing snakes in their natural habitats. A lifelong snake appreciator\, her work is guided by the desire to give back to the quiet\, misunderstood creatures who bring her joy and peace.\nHer research focuses on the natural history\, behavior\, and conservation of Pacific Northwest reptiles – especially northern pacific rattlesnakes and the imperiled striped whipsnake. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Biology from Central Washington University\, where she studied under Dr. Dan Beck. Her graduate research examined the effects of utility-scale solar energy on reptiles in Southern California. \nToday\, she leads a Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife–funded project to map the distribution and support the recovery of striped whipsnakes in the mid-Columbia Basin shrubsteppe. She is passionate about bridging science and public understanding through storytelling to dispel myths\, foster coexistence\, and share the quiet wonder of a life spent alongside snakes. \nAbout Sense of Place: \n  \n \nFor 16-years\, Sense of Place has connected people through place and storytelling. \nOur flagship speaker series features people with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge and who consider the natural and cultural history that has shaped this place. Guests have included: scientists\, tribal members\, authors\, farmers\, and many others from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The stories shared deepen our understanding of the Gorge and strengthen our connection to the landscape and to each other. \nLearn more about Sense of Place and check out our online archive and past events HERE.\nFor more information\, visit senseofplacegorge.org or follow on Instagram @senseofplacegorge. Subscribe to the Sense of Place Newsletter for event updates and behind-the-scenes stories. \nSense of Place is a program of Mt. Adams Institute\, which provides programs that\nstrengthen the connection between people and the natural world through\neducation\, service\, career development\, and research.

SUMMARY:Wildflower Festival Poster Unveiling Party
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the 4th Annual White Salmon Wildflower Festival Poster Unveiling\nThe countdown to the 4th Annual White Salmon Wildflower Festival is officially underway — and we’re inviting the community to be part of the excitement. \nJoin us on March 26th from 5:30–7:00 PM at Marcel (163 N Main Ave\, White Salmon) for the official unveiling of the 2026 festival poster. This special evening is a chance to gather\, celebrate spring’s arrival\, and get a first look at the artwork that will represent this year’s festival. \nThe 2026 poster features a stunning photograph of wildflowers in bloom with Mt. Hood rising in the background\, captured by local photographer Brian Chambers\, a previous Wildflower Festival Photography Contest winner. Brian will be on hand during the unveiling to talk about his photography\, his connection to the festival\, and the story behind this year’s featured image. \nWe’re also excited to welcome local author Ashley Erdely\, who will be present with autographed copies of her new book\, Wildflowers of the Pacific Northwest for Kids (Timber Press\, 2025)\, available for purchase. Her work beautifully complements the spirit of the festival by inspiring curiosity and appreciation for the native plants that make our region so special. \nMaryhill Winery wine will be available by donation during the event\, adding to the celebratory atmosphere. \nThe White Salmon Wildflower Festival is rooted in our tagline: Nature\, Art\, and Community in Full Bloom. Each year\, the festival brings together outdoor enthusiasts\, artists\, families\, and visitors to celebrate the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge and the vibrant spirit of White Salmon. \nFestival highlights in May will include the Wine Walk & Artisan Market\, Mayfaire\, guided hikes and walks\, rafting adventures\, art shows and open studios\, workshops\, photography and kids art contests\, live mural painting\, the Balsamroot Bash\, and stewardship and volunteer opportunities. \nWe are grateful to Maryhill Winery and Hush Esthetics for being the first sponsors of the 2026 White Salmon Wildflower Festival. Their early support helps make this celebration of nature and community possible. \nTourism support is provided by the City of White Salmon lodging tax funds and administered by the Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce. \nCome raise a glass\, meet the artist and author\, connect with neighbors\, and be among the first to see this year’s beautiful festival artwork. We look forward to celebrating with you on March 26th at Marcel. \nFor more information and to view the full festival schedule\, visit whitesalmonwildflowerfestival.org and follow @ExploreWhiteSalmon on Instagram.
