SUMMARY:The Dalles Dam Visitor Center hosts 16th annual Eagle Watch
DESCRIPTION:A bald eagle captures a fish in its talons. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPRINT | E-MAIL\n\n\nPORTLAND\, Ore. —Break out the binoculars! Join the Portland District\, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) park rangers and our partners for the 16th Annual Eagle Watch event\, Jan. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.\, to see bald eagles that congregate near the dam every winter. \nThe event will be held in two locations. Outdoor viewing of bald eagles will be held at the Dalles Dam Visitor Center and the indoor activities will be held at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum. \nThe Columbia River Gorge is a prime winter location for migrating eagles due to the abundance of food found along the Columbia River. It’s typical to see dozens of eagles from the visitor center parking lot and adjacent Seufert Park\, which are both open to the public every day from dusk until dawn. \nThe Dalles Dam Visitor Center is currently closed through January but will be open the day of the event for eagle viewing. Rangers will be available to answer questions\, help people use spotting scopes (provided by the Corps)\, and teach basic bird identification tips. \nThis all-ages event is free and accessible to visitors with disabilities. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own scopes\, binoculars\, and cameras. Please note that inclement weather may cause the event to be rescheduled. \nThe Dalles Dam Visitor Center is located just north of Interstate 84 at exit 87\, then east on Bret Clodfelter Way. For more information\, contact The Dalles Lock and Dam ranger office at 541-506-8475 or follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/PortlandCorps/. \nThe Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum is located at 5000 Discovery Dr.\, The Dalles\, OR. SUMMARY:Labyrinth Walk
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by Marna Cascadia \nWe’ll learn a bit about the history of labyrinths and contemporary research on the benefits and vibrant practices of walking labyrinths. And together we will share a contemplative experience of walking a labyrinth together. In the process of moving through a labyrinth\, the act of pausing and slowing opens a field of imaginal expansion and kinship. We incubate a question to travel with\, in the wheels of the labyrinth. To pause at the turns is to notice pivoting the body and literally changing perspective. We arrive at the center of the labyrinth\, pausing to reflect\, often noticing what insights have been gifted. Then we turn and make the great journey outward. Our attention might be drawn to fresh perspectives\, connections\, integrations\, and possibilities as we arc and twist. \nOften\, folks open to or incubate an intention during the quiet\, open-focus experience of walking contemplatively through the arcs and turns of the labyrinth. Here\, at the glimmering time of possibility as winter winks into promises of spring\, let us incubate and open. We each proceed at our own pace. Labyrinth walking can help us to: \n-Sustain states of experiential flow-Cultivate a deeper relationship with self-Share an experience of opening within the larger wheels of becoming-Catalyze creative contemplation. \nWith thanks to Richard Poudrier from Salem who has loaned us a 20-foot\, Chartres-pattern\, cloth labyrinth. Please note – during the experiential portion of the service\, we will walk in socks as we move through the cloth labyrinth.Cloth shoe-cover booties will also be available. We will share a link to a finger walking labyrinth for those attending via zoom.Join online at 10 am – https://tinyurl.com/mcuuf2025

SUMMARY:Cocaine Yogi: My Reluctant Spiritual Journey | A Night with Comedian Andie Main
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tickettomato.com/event/9836 \nUsing the chakras as a mile marker for her journey\, Andie Main tells the story of how she went from being a punk-rock coke dealer\, to an alcoholic stand-up comic\, to a now sober and disabled yoga teacher. \nIn this darkly comedic solo show\, she discusses the cosmic struggle of practicing yoga while suffering from a fused spine brought on by the rare disease Ankylosing Spondylitis. \nIn her latest hour\, she has constructed a deeply personal\, yet universal story that explores the mysteries of the universe\, and also that one time she knocked two people over in yoga. \nAndie Main is a stand up comedian now based in Portland OR\, after living in Denver and New York City. She has two albums available for streaming\, produced by the darlings at Blonde Medicine Records; Magpie and Rocky Mountain Bi. \nShe has opened for some of the best comics ever like Kyle Kinane\, Dave Hill\, Natasha Leggero\, Moshe Kasher\, Russell Peters\, and Janeane Garafalo. She’s also performed in many esteemed festivals across the country like Bumbershoot\, Sketchfest and Red Clay Comedy Festival. \nWhen she’s not on stage\, she can be found hiking around the woods with her dog Sadie\, teaching a yoga class\, or going on terrible first dates which she will ruthlessly mine for material. \nDoors open at 6:30pm. 18+. Indoor show. Pets not allowed. Tickets are non-refundable. Questions? Email gorgespeakeasy@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Volcano Listening Project
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.\, shows at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. PDT. (If the event is sold out\, unclaimed seats will be released to the waitlist fifteen minutes prior to the show.) \nWhere: Columbia Center for the Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave.\, Hood River\, OR 97031 \nSTORY: Volcanic eruptions can perturb global climate\, build mountains\, and reshape human civilizations. They can be deadly\, but the deep roots of volcanoes also provide a foundry for critical minerals that enable modern society. In these ways and others\, volcanoes have inspired scientists and artists alike for thousands of years. The Volcano Listening Project explores connections between scientific research and artistic perspectives of volcanoes\, developing tools to represent data through sound that draw equally from data science\, volcanology\, and new music. ‘Sonification’\, the display of data using sound\, provides a powerful way to understand complex signals such as are emerging with new monitoring capabilities and can enable volcano science. In equal part\, sonification of volcanic data can trigger an emotional response\, and thus lead to compelling music. This program will showcase volcano music and the science behind it\, led by University of Oregon professor/violinist Leif Karlstrom and featuring an ensemble of internationally recognized musicians: Todd Sickafoose\, Idit Shner\, Adam Roskiewicz\, and Jonny Rodgers. Featuring composer\, Marc Evanstein. \nAbout the Performers:\n\nLeif Karlstrom came from a family of professional musicians and earth scientists\, and has built a career in both domains. As a violinist he toured nationally and internationally with the bluegrass band Front Country and Small Town Therapy. As a scientist he is an associate professor at the University of Oregon\, where he runs a research group that studies volcanic processes from current activity at Kilauea volcano to climate-altering Large Igneous Province events. He started the Volcano Listening Project in 2023. \n\nTodd Sickafoose is a composer\, producer\, and bassist widely known for his work with Ani DeFranco (since 2004) as well as in jazz ensembles with the likes of Adam Levy\, Jenny Scheinman\, Nels Cline\, and Allison Miller\, as well as his own group. His work orchestrating and producing music for the Broadway musical Hades Town earned him a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater album and a Tony award for Best Orchestration. \n \nIdit Shner is professor of saxophone and jazz studies at the University of Oregon\, with an active performing and recording career across genres that includes commissioned premieres of new music nationally and internationally. She leads her jazz quartet in the Pacific Northwest and is an award-winning teacher. \nJonny Rodgers is a musician and composer known for his work as Cinder Talk and numerous film scores. He has received accolades from The NY Times for developing and performing a unique tuned glass orchestra instrument. \nAdam Roszkiewicz is a musician and composer known for his guitar and mandolin work with the Modern Mandolin Quartet (with whom has was nominated for a Best Chamber Music Performance Grammy Award)\, the Ger Mandolin Orchestra\, Front Country\, and Small Town Therapy. \nAbout Sense of Place: \n  \n \nFor 16-years\, Sense of Place has connected people through place and storytelling. \nOur flagship speaker series features people with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge and who consider the natural and cultural history that has shaped this place. Guests have included: scientists\, tribal members\, authors\, farmers\, and many others from throughout the Pacific Northwest. The stories shared deepen our understanding of the Gorge and strengthen our connection to the landscape and to each other. \nLearn more about Sense of Place and check out our online archive and past events HERE. \nFor more information\, visit senseofplacegorge.org or follow on Instagram @senseofplacegorge. Subscribe to the Sense of Place Newsletter for event updates and behind-the-scenes stories. \nSense of Place is a program of Mt.
