DESCRIPTION:In 2007\, Kiteboard 4 Cancer was founded by three Gorge locals inspired to put on a small event for community good.One of those founders\, Tonia Farman\, led the event for its first fifteen years as it grew into a beloved community tradition. After several years away\, Tonia has returned to help guide KB4C into its next chapter\, reigniting the event with the same spirit of purpose and community that started it all. \nThere will be kiteboarding\, winging\, foiling\, art-ing\, eating\, swimming and more fun activities for our community to come take part in! \nFor the past 17 years\, KB4C has benefited organizations such as Children’s Hospital Seattle\, Children’s Healing Art Project\, John Wayne Cancer Foundation\, Celilo Cancer Center\, OHSU Adolescent & Young Adult Clinic\, and Project Koru\, the local organization here in Hood River that was started because of Kiteboard 4 Cancer. \nNew this year\, KB4C will select three beneficiary organizations whose work strengthens the Gorge community in the areas of cancer care and support\, and/or mental health and wellness.This approach allows the event to support several impactful programs each year while staying focused on the well-being of our community. DESCRIPTION:In honor of the Oregon Outback being named the World’s Largest International Dark Sky Sanctuary and the new moon on July 14\, we are offering overnight RV camping and will be turning off our lights so you can get an amazing view of the stars. We know the dark sky sanctuary is in eastern Oregon and the new moon is a couple days later\, but we promise the view of the stars on Mt. Hood is out of this world! In addition\, most camping on Mt. Hood is booked for this weekend and we have plenty of RV spots available so make your plans now and join us for a dark sky experience on Mt. Hood! \nMeadows is also a great place for a daytime adventure! We’ll have our hiking trails open\, the Stadium chair will be running for scenic chair lift rides and the Paradise Grill will be serving delicious food and refreshing drinks.

Rinpoche has spent decades in meditation\, scholarship\, and spiritual leadership\, guiding students from around the world while overseeing monastic education and practice in the Himalayan region. \nThe visit will begin on Saturday\, July 25\, with a Chittamani Green Tara Empowerment\, a traditional Buddhist initiation connected to Tara\, one of the most beloved figures in Tibetan Buddhism. Known as the embodiment of compassion\, protection\, and enlightened activity\, Tara is often called upon by practitioners seeking courage\, wisdom\, and the ability to navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity. \nWhile the empowerment is rooted in an ancient spiritual tradition\, many participants are drawn to Tara practice because of its emphasis on compassion\, resilience\, and awakening the positive qualities already present within the human heart. \nThe following three days will focus on an introduction to Tummo\, often translated as “Inner Heat.” Tummo is one of the most renowned meditation systems of Tibetan Buddhism and has attracted international attention for its effects on concentration\, well-being\, and the body’s response to cold. \nFor centuries\, Himalayan yogis have practiced Tummo as a method for developing inner vitality\, mental stability\, and profound states of meditation. In recent decades\, scientific researchers have studied advanced practitioners and documented unusual abilities related to body temperature regulation and stress resilience. SUMMARY:August in the Park & Viking Bog Olympics
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Daubenspeck Park…a beautiful\, shady spot…for games\, classes and contests with a viking theme! Board games\, lawn games & physical contests\, and a Holmgång contest for the fighters. \nThere will be games and contests throughout the day\, including: Hunkerhausen\, Glima (shield wrestling)\, Togahonk\, Jomswikinger\, and the Porthole Rat Toss! For the heavy fighters there will be a Holmgång contest. If you’re looking for something a little more relaxed\, we will have a selection of board and lawn games like Hnefatafl\, Taflkast\, Kubb and Petanque. We’ll also have some A&S classes to keep you busy. \nThere will be plenty of activities to choose from if you wish\, or just relax in the shade of the big trees and be a spectator if that’s your preference! (Be sure to bring a blanket or chair to sit on). \nThere will be a potluck in the afternoon\, so bring your favorite dish\, & your feast gear. This is “picnic style”\, with no electricity for crockpots.  \nDefender’s Tourney: \nThis year\, the trials are open to others not from the Shire! If you are open to supporting fighting activities in the Shire for the next year\, and willing to help organize next years trials\, you are welcome to vie for the honour of becoming the next Shield of Hauksgardr! The lists format will be determined based on the number of fighters who attend. We will be fighting Holmgang tournament and the victor will be chosen based on the outcome of the tournament\, and participation in the Bog Olympics! \nTentative schedule: \nsite open at 11:00 – No site fee! \nDefender’s Tourney 11:30 \nGames starting at 12:30 \nImpromptu A&S throughout the day  \ndinner prep 4:30 \ndinner 5:00 \nOff site by 7pm

Our “Around the World” culinary camp is a hands-on journey where young chefs (ages 5-12) explore diverse cultures\, one recipe at a time. Participants will learning authentic cooking techniques\, discovering exciting new flavors\, and follow multiple recipes each day of camp from start to finish.After tasting their creations\, students will box them up for home (if there is any left)! \nCulinary classes in The Makery are not only fun and tasty\, but expose children to learning self-reliance\, reading comprehension\, units of measurement\, fractions\, utensil skills\, kitchen safety\, planning\, and patience.  \nEach child needs to bring a lunch and a water bottle.
