SUMMARY:Book of Will
DESCRIPTION:What if half of Shakespeare’s plays had been lost forever? Columbia Center for the Arts invites audiences to find out in The Book of Will\, a witty and heartwarming historical drama by Lauren Gunderson\, opening September 12 in Hood River. \nDirected by seasoned theater veteran Tom Burns\, The Book of Will tells the remarkable (and mostly true) story of Henry Condell and John Heminges\, two of Shakespeare’s longtime friends and fellow actors who — after the Bard’s death — took it upon themselves to collect and preserve his plays in what became the famous First Folio. Without their determination\, classics like Twelfth Night and Macbeth might never have survived. \nFeaturing an ensemble cast including David Dye\, Erik Lundby\, Emily Joyce\, Emily Vawter\, William Thayer-Daugherty\, Ben Sheppard\, Bob Fox\, Dawn Rankin\, Davis Macintosh\, and Sam Harrigan\, the production promises both humor and heart\, offering a fresh perspective on the legacy of one of the world’s greatest playwrights. \nPerformance Dates: \n\n\nFriday\, September 12 – 7:30 PM \n\n\nSaturday\, September 13 – 7:30 PM \n\n\nSunday\, September 14 – 2:00 PM (matinee) \n\n\nFriday\, September 20 – 7:30 PM \n\n\nSaturday\, September 21 – 7:30 PM \n\nSunday\, September 22 – 2:00 PM\n\nFriday\, September 26 – 7:30 PM \n\n\nSaturday\, September 27 – 7:30 PM \n\n\nLocation: Columbia Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave\, Hood River\, OR 97031 \nTickets and more information are available at: https://events.humanitix.com/copy-of-the-book-of-will-by-lauren-gunderson

SUMMARY:Jen Smith’s Sky Hunters & The Spirt Art of Steve Stegall
DESCRIPTION:Columbia Center for the Arts (CCA) is proud to present two powerful\, nature-inspired exhibitions this fall\, on view October 3–November 9\, 2025: Sky Hunters by Jen Smith in the Lobby Gallery\, and Patterns in Nature\, Variations on a Theme: A Retrospective by Steve Stegall in the Main Gallery. \nLobby Gallery | Sky Hunters by Jen Smith\n\nSky Hunters unveils twelve striking charcoal and pastel portraits of raptors\, each rendered on custom cradled birch panels. Artist and naturalist Jen Smith draws inspiration from the high deserts of Wyoming and Montana\, as well as the Columbia River Gorge of Washington and Oregon\, where she now makes her home. \nSmith’s work captures the power\, grace\, and vitality of birds of prey\, balancing anatomical accuracy with expressive energy. A lifelong wildlife advocate\, she hopes to inspire viewers to understand both the beauty and the ecological importance of these dynamic hunters. Her artwork has been nationally recognized in exhibitions at the National Museum of Wildlife Art\, the High Desert Museum\, and the World Center for Birds of Prey. \nMain Gallery | The Spirit Art of Steve Stegall: A Retrorespective \nThis retrospective celebrates the life’s work of Pacific Northwest artist Steve Stegall\, a self-taught and fiercely independent creator whose drawings and sculptures channel the primal energies of the natural world. For more than four decades\, Stegall has transformed wood\, stone\, shed antlers and pen-and-ink doodles into “Spirit Art” — meditative works that reflect the forms of human figures\, goddesses\, and spirit animals. \nStegall’s work draws inspiration from diverse traditions including Celtic\, Eskimo\, Northwest Coast Native\, Maori\, Mayan\, and Egyptian art\, while weaving in the fluid grace of Art Nouveau. But ultimately\, Stegall’s work is about the discoveries he’s made during the dialogue between his hands\, tools\, and the spirit of the natural materials themselves. The exhibition highlights the breadth\, variety\, and spiritual resonance of his practice. \n  \nOpening Reception\nThe community is invited to a free public reception on Friday\, October 3\, from 4:30–7:30 p.m.\, where visitors can meet the artists\, enjoy refreshments\, and be among the first to view these dynamic exhibitions. \nExhibit Dates: October 3 – November 9\, 2025 Wed- Sun Noon to 5pm\nLocation: Columbia Center for the Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave\, Hood River\, OR \nFor more information\, please visit columbiarts.org. \nAbout Columbia Center for the Arts\nColumbia Center for the Arts (CCA) is a nonprofit in Hood River\, Oregon\, dedicated to promoting an equitable\, accessible\, and arts-rich environment in the Columbia Gorge. Guided by a vision of a thriving creative community\, CCA connects artists\, performers\, and audiences through diverse opportunities in visual\, performing\, and educational arts.

SUMMARY:Live Theatre - The Woman in Black
DESCRIPTION:The Woman in Black \n\nAdapted by Stephen Mallatratt \nBased on the novel by Susan Hill \n  \nOctober 3\, 4\, 10\, 11\, 17 & 18 – Doors at 7pm – Show at 7:30pm \nOctober 5 & 12 – Doors at 1:30pm – Show at 2:00pm \nPlease plan to arrive at least fifteen minutes early \n  \nDirected by Joe Garoutte \nRecommended ages 12 and up. \nThis ghost story\, while not gory\, will include intense moments of suspense utilizing lighting\, sound and fog. \n  \nPlease also be aware that this production will feature sequences of flashing lights. \n  \nRun Time: Approximately 2 hours with a 20-minute intermission \n  \nEnter the chilling world of The Woman in Black\, a ghost story that will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat. Arthur Kipps\, a man forever haunted by a horrifying encounter\, hires a young actor to help him retell the events that shattered his life. Together\, they bring to life his time in a remote\, fog-shrouded English village\, where the desolate streets and creaking manor conceal a shadowy figure\, the Woman in Black. Her vengeful spirit seems to follow everyone who comes near\, and as Kipps recounts the story\, the two men (and the audience) are drawn into a web of supernatural dread where the line between the living and the dead grows terrifyingly thin. \nEvery flicker of light\, every whisper of wind\, and every haunting sound effect becomes a character in its own right\, amplifying the suspense and pulling you deeper into the story. The Woman in Black is not just a play; it is a masterclass in tension and fear\, an immersive theatrical experience where terror lurks in every shadow and even the smallest noise could herald something sinister. By the time the show ends\, the chilling echo of the ghostly presence will stay with you long after you leave the theater. \n  \nTicket Prices: \n$23 (plus fees) Senior/Student \n$25 (plus fees) Adult
