SUMMARY:Cocaine Yogi: My Reluctant Spiritual Journey | A Night with Comedian Andie Main
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tickettomato.com/event/9836 \nUsing the chakras as a mile marker for her journey\, Andie Main tells the story of how she went from being a punk-rock coke dealer\, to an alcoholic stand-up comic\, to a now sober and disabled yoga teacher. \nIn this darkly comedic solo show\, she discusses the cosmic struggle of practicing yoga while suffering from a fused spine brought on by the rare disease Ankylosing Spondylitis. \nIn her latest hour\, she has constructed a deeply personal\, yet universal story that explores the mysteries of the universe\, and also that one time she knocked two people over in yoga. \nAndie Main is a stand up comedian now based in Portland OR\, after living in Denver and New York City. She has two albums available for streaming\, produced by the darlings at Blonde Medicine Records; Magpie and Rocky Mountain Bi. \nShe has opened for some of the best comics ever like Kyle Kinane\, Dave Hill\, Natasha Leggero\, Moshe Kasher\, Russell Peters\, and Janeane Garafalo. She’s also performed in many esteemed festivals across the country like Bumbershoot\, Sketchfest and Red Clay Comedy Festival. \nWhen she’s not on stage\, she can be found hiking around the woods with her dog Sadie\, teaching a yoga class\, or going on terrible first dates which she will ruthlessly mine for material. \nDoors open at 6:30pm. 18+. Indoor show. Pets not allowed. Tickets are non-refundable. Questions? Email gorgespeakeasy@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Volcano Listening Project
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.\, shows at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. PDT. (If the event is sold out\, unclaimed seats will be released to the waitlist fifteen minutes prior to the show.) \nWhere: Columbia Center for the Arts\, 215 Cascade Ave.\, Hood River\, OR 97031 \nSTORY: Volcanic eruptions can perturb global climate\, build mountains\, and reshape human civilizations. They can be deadly\, but the deep roots of volcanoes also provide a foundry for critical minerals that enable modern society. In these ways and others\, volcanoes have inspired scientists and artists alike for thousands of years. The Volcano Listening Project explores connections between scientific research and artistic perspectives of volcanoes\, developing tools to represent data through sound that draw equally from data science\, volcanology\, and new music. ‘Sonification’\, the display of data using sound\, provides a powerful way to understand complex signals such as are emerging with new monitoring capabilities and can enable volcano science. In equal part\, sonification of volcanic data can trigger an emotional response\, and thus lead to compelling music. This program will showcase volcano music and the science behind it\, led by University of Oregon professor/violinist Leif Karlstrom and featuring an ensemble of internationally recognized musicians: Todd Sickafoose\, Idit Shner\, Adam Roskiewicz\, and Jonny Rodgers. Featuring composer\, Marc Evanstein. \nAbout the Performers:\n\nLeif Karlstrom came from a family of professional musicians and earth scientists\, and has built a career in both domains. As a violinist he toured nationally and internationally with the bluegrass band Front Country and Small Town Therapy. As a scientist he is an associate professor at the University of Oregon\, where he runs a research group that studies volcanic processes from current activity at Kilauea volcano to climate-altering Large Igneous Province events. He started the Volcano Listening Project in 2023. \n\nTodd Sickafoose is a composer\, producer\, and bassist widely known for his work with Ani DeFranco (since 2004) as well as in jazz ensembles with the likes of Adam Levy\, Jenny Scheinman\, Nels Cline\, and Allison Miller\, as well as his own group. His work orchestrating and producing music for the Broadway musical Hades Town earned him a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater album and a Tony award for Best Orchestration. \n \nIdit Shner is professor of saxophone and jazz studies at the University of Oregon\, with an active performing and recording career across genres that includes commissioned premieres of new music nationally and internationally. She leads her jazz quartet in the Pacific Northwest and is an award-winning teacher. \nJonny Rodgers is a musician and composer known for his work as Cinder Talk and numerous film scores.
He has received accolades from The NY Times for developing and performing a unique tuned glass orchestra instrument. \nAdam Roszkiewicz is a musician and composer known for his guitar and mandolin work with the Modern Mandolin Quartet (with whom has was nominated for a Best Chamber Music Performance Grammy Award)\, the Ger Mandolin Orchestra\, Front Country\, and Small Town Therapy. \nAbout Sense of Place: \n  \n \nFor 16-years\, Sense of Place has connected people through place and storytelling. \nOur flagship speaker series features people with unique knowledge of the Columbia River Gorge and who consider the natural and cultural history that has shaped this place. SUMMARY:Black Infinity House – Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:“The Black Infinity House art exhibit is focused on highlighting the visions\, expressions\, experiences and imaginations of local\, black artists across multiple mediums.  \nThe premise of the show comes from a concept I grasped when reading The Black Aesthetic II. The early pages of the book’s discussion illuminate the fact that Blackness is infinite. People may try to define what it means to be black; but it comes in all different forms\, especially as we\, as a people\, constantly create new spaces and phenomenal forms of culture in order to to express ourselves and own our incredible power in safe environments —specifically made for us\, by us.  \nThis artists’ showcase is an experiential exhibit with three quadrants in the gallery that together are meant to demonstrate black art through the process of its creation\, consumption and cultivation. Art will be displayed in three sectors called The Studio\, The Living Room\, and The Porch\, respectively.”

They use their work as a way to heal their own traumas\, the traumas of their ancestors & recently the people who see their work. Through spiritual practices & ancestral work they incorporate the messages they receive via dreams and meditation into their work. Growing up multi-racial & queer\, it was important to them to find their sense of self and where they fit in within her communities. Art has helped them accomplish this. Their work has become an embodiment of self and the divine in a way that also lets the viewer see divine in themselves. https://www.paintbydelone.com/
