SUMMARY:Abrazo: An Evening with Nick Jaina Blending Music\, Film + Poetry
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS: https://www.tickettomato.com/event/10353 \n“My friend Andrei in Mexico City tells me that the Spanish word abrazo means so much more than a hug…” \nSo begins the stunning presentation from Nick Jaina\, a poetic film essay called Abrazo that explores the affection missing in the world. \nIn a unique performance\, Nick projects the film while playing gorgeous electric guitar soundscapes and narrating the film live\, all while beautiful videos from the streets of Mexico City flicker behind him. It is a uniquely hopeful experience of soul and body. \nThe film accompanies the book of the same name\, a poetic photo essay that unfolds in full color\, one line on each page. \n— \nNick Jaina was an Oregon Book Award finalist in 2015 for his memoir Get It While You Can\, which is now in its third printing. His writing has appeared in Atlantic Monthly\, McSweeney’s Quarterly and the journal Oregon Humanities. He has released many wonderful albums under his own name\, including 2025’s The Monster Mash. He co-founded and was music director for a ballet company in New York City called Satellite that involved dancers from Juilliard and the New York City Ballet and performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music\, garnering praise from The New York Times. He has composed scores for feature films and documentaries\, including All Sorts\, Cement Suitcase\, and Elemental: Reimagine Wildfire. \nDoors open at 6:30 pm. 18+ Indoor showQuestions? SUMMARY:Landscape presented by the Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association
DESCRIPTION:The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association \nLandscape \nGorge Sinfonietta \nFriday\, November 13 at 7 PM\, Sunday November 15 at 2 PM \nWy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center \n  \n  \nThe Gorge Sinfonietta launches an exciting new chapter with the arrival of its new conductor\, Lars Campbell\, making his debut with the ensemble this season\, with Landscape\, an evocative concert celebrating the power and drama of the natural world. \n  \nFramed by the dramatic vistas of the Columbia River Gorge and standing in the twin shadows of Mount Hood and Mount Adams\, the Gorge Sinfonietta’s season premiere mirrors the rugged beauty of the region through musical storytelling. Campbell curated the Landscape program specifically to reflect the majesty and grandeur that define the local community. \n  \n“This program channels the expansive sense of place\, connecting the dramatic natural landscapes of the Columbia River Gorge with the rich\, emotive worlds created by master symphonic composers\,” said Campbell. \n  \nThe concert anchors around Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 3\, a work renowned for its pastoral clarity\, organic architecture\, and triumphant\, epic finale that evokes the raw majesty of Nordic vistas—resonating naturally with the Cascade range. Continuing the journey across geography and memory\, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ folk-infused Norfolk Rhapsody No. 1 paints a tender\, misty portrait of an English coastal fishing village\, capturing the reflective\, water-shaped contours of life by the river. Adding dramatic contrast\, Antonín Dvořák’s fiery Hussite Overture ignites the stage with rhythmic drive and historic passion\, carving a rugged musical terrain as commanding as the Gorge canyon itself. \n  \nWith Landscape\, Campbell and the Sinfonietta invite audiences to hear their surroundings anew—bridging the iconic summits of Hood and Adams and the timeless currents of the Columbia River with orchestral masterworks. \n  \nA seasoned conductor and trombonist\, Lars Campbell has led numerous performances for Third Angle New Music\, the Clackamas Wind Ensemble\, and Clackamas Repertory Theater\, in addition to performing with the Oregon Symphony. Drawn to CGOA by the vibrant community support in the Gorge\, Lars focuses on building connection and togetherness through music. Outside of conducting\, he is an avid hiker and kayaker\, an average golfer\, and a passionate fan of composer Leoš Janáček. \n  \nThe Sinfonietta Landscape concerts will be Friday\, November 13 at 7 PM\, and Sunday\, November 15 at 2 PM. Concerts will be at the Wy’east Middle School Performing Arts Center at 3000 Wy’east Rd in Odell. Tickets are available at gorgeorchestra.org. Adults $25; CGOA members $20; students/youth FREE (HS & college students show ID at the door). Also\, $5 tickets are available at the door for SNAP card holders through the Arts for All program. \n  \nThe Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and presenting musical performances of the highest quality in the Columbia River Gorge region. With a commitment to artistic excellence and education\, CGOA brings the joy of music to audiences of all ages. \n

SUMMARY:Unseen: Invisible Wounds\, Invincible Spirit
DESCRIPTION:UNSEEN | Directed by Chad Brown\nScreening: 7:00 PM | Doors at 6:30pm.\nRuntime is 65 minutes\, followed by a live Q&A\nTickets $15 \nUNSEEN is a striking 65-minute documentary from award-winning filmmaker\, Navy veteran\, and conservationist Chad Brown. \nThe film follows five military veterans as they take on a grueling 200-mile bikepacking expedition through Oregon’s wilderness. Along the way\, they navigate their own invisible wounds of trauma and PTSD while tracing the forgotten footsteps of the Triple Nickels\, the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion\, America’s first all-Black smokejumper unit. \nDuring World War II\, the Triple Nickels were sent to the Pacific Northwest on a classified domestic mission\, parachuting into remote forests to protect Oregon’s forests while being denied the opportunity to serve in combat. \nUNSEEN brings these two journeys together in a story about resilience\, service\, history\, and the role the outdoors can play in healing. \nHood River is a fitting place for the final stop of the UNSEEN tour. The Oregon Timber Trail\, which stretches more than 600 miles through the state\, finishes its route here in the Columbia River Gorge. The screening brings the film’s journey full circle and offers an opportunity for veterans\, outdoor enthusiasts\, history lovers\, and the wider Gorge community to come together around a uniquely Oregon story. \nUNSEEN is directed by Chad Brown and supported in part by Travel Oregon and Oregon Film. Brown’s work as a filmmaker\, photographer\, and advocate has focused on outdoor access\, conservation\, racial equity\, and the experiences of veterans. \nAbout Our Partner\, Love Is King:\nLove Is King is a justice‑driven conservation movement working from the Lower 48 to the Arctic Refuge to protect land\, water\, wildlife\, and Indigenous sovereignty. SUMMARY:Countryside Ride's 4th Annual Bakersfield Bash at Trout Lake Hall
DESCRIPTION:Satuday\, November 28th\, 2026 \n$18 Advance // $25 Day of6pm Doors / 7pm ShowAll Ages \n4th ANNUAL BAKERSFIELD BASH \nOn Saturday\, November 28th\, The Countryside Ride Band will be bringing their 4th Annual Bakersfield Bash to the Trout Lake Hall celebrating their most influential country music subgenre: The Bakersfield Sound. Being West Coast country artists\, Countryside Ride has been profoundly influenced by the Bakersfield Sound\, the artists who created it\, and are thrilled to be dedicating a night to performing the music of Buck Owens\, Merle Haggard\, Wynn Stewart\, Red Simpson\, Tommy Collins\, Dwight Yoakum\, and many more of the purveyors of The Bakersfield Sound. Mark your calendars and don’t forget to bring your dancing boots! \n“Let me tell you about The Bakersfield Sound. It was the wild untamed side of country music that came out of California’s Central Valley in the 50s and 60s. This wasn’t your polished Nashville-style country\, no Sir\, this was rougher\, rawer\, and a whole lot louder: just like the folks who made it. Buck Owens and Merle Haggard were the kings of this scene\, but they weren’t alone. Wynn Stewart brought some west coast swagger\, with his smooth vocals and sharp guitar work\, while Tommy Collins laid the groundwork that mixed humor and heartache in a way that was pure country. Bonnie Owens\, not just Merle’s wife but a powerhouse vocalist\, added warmth and depth\, while Red Simpson kept the highways humming with his truck driving anthems. The Bakersfield Sound was born in the honky tonks and roadhouses of Bakersfield\, where the beer flowed and the dance floors stayed packed. These folks cranked up the twang on their Telecasters\, slapped on a honky tonk beat\, and sang about real life struggles: hard work\, hard luck\, and heartbreak that could only be drowned out with a stiff drink. They took the clean polished sound of Nashville and gave it a shot of adrenaline: creating music that was tough as nails and real as dirt. So\, when you hear those driving rhythms\, sharp guitar riffs\, and honest to God lyrics\, you’re hearing The Bakersfield Sound: a raw\, real\, and unapologetically authentic slice of country music history.” (The Bakersfield Sound) \nCOUNTRYSIDE RIDE \nThe Countryside Ride Band was described in 2016 by The Portland Mercury as “spot-on\, honky-tonk preservationists capable of teaching a master class.” Founded in 2005 by childhood friends Bret Ervin (guitar and vocals)\, Joshua Kunze (lead guitar)\, and Jessica Renee (bass and vocals)\, Countryside Ride originally performed as a three-piece before inviting some of the best country & western players in the Pacific Northwest to join them. Countryside Ride is now performing primarily as a five-piece honkytonk band. For over two decades\, Countryside Ride has been writing and performing original music and traditional honkytonk standards in venues throughout the region. The current line-up includes the tremendous J.D. Cunningham on pedal-steel guitar\, and the legendary Kevin\, “Shuffle King\,” Major on drums. \nIn the years since Countryside Ride’s inception\, the band has been working to hone their craft the way their honkytonk heroes did: playing marathon sets for diehard country music enthusiasts wherever they may be. Countryside Ride can be found performing at festivals\, dances\, special events\, venues large and small\, and rodeos like the Pendleton Roundup: consistently entertaining multiple generations of music fans while breathing new energy in traditional Country music. Additionally\, Countryside Ride has shared the stage with acts like Wayne “The Train” Hancock\, Rosie Flores\, Hellbound Glory\, Summer Dean\, and many others. Although they have released two of their own records (with two more in the works)\, Countryside Ride’s repertoire is vast and incorporates multiple sub-genres of American music as well: making them the Pacific Northwest’s premier honkytonk dance band.
