SUMMARY:An Evening with Buddy Wakefield: World Champion Spoken Word Artist
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS: https://www.tickettomato.com/event/9956 \nIn 2001\, Buddy left his desk job in Gig Harbor\, WA\, sold everything he owned\, moved into a Honda Civic\, and set out to “live for a living\,” touring poetry venues for two years. He never stopped. \nBuddy isn’t concerned with what poetry is or is not. So\, this performance is raw\, funny\, disarming\, and unlike anything you’ve seen in the Gorge. \nBuddy Wakefield is an Individual World Poetry Slam champion\, an actor\, writer\, and the most toured performance poet in history. \nHe’s been a busker in Amsterdam\, a street vendor in Spain\, a team leader in Singapore\, a re-delivery boy\, a candy maker\, a street sweeper\, a bartender\, a maid\, a construction worker\, a bull rider\, a notably slow triathlete\, and more. \nBuddy’s been featured on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam and the BBC\, signed to both Sage Francis’ Strange Famous Records and Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records\, and has performed in over 2\,000 venues across the globe — from the Great Lawn of Central Park to San QuentinState Penitentiary. \n“Buddy Wakefield is an unbullshit artist… and he’ll make you laugh your ass off while he does it.” — Gabrielle Bouliane \n“Buddy Wakefield is a honey badger. Lions will go completely out of their way to avoid a honey badger.” — Don Beck\, Theory of Spiral Dynamics \n“I think he’s proof that there is a God.” — Graham Moore\, Academy Award-winning writer of The Imitation Game \nWe’ll kick off the night with musical opener Kaylan Krebsbach. Join us for a performance you won’t forget.

SUMMARY:11th Annual Dumb Diseases Concert
DESCRIPTION:Molly Schwarz has been performing her annual sold-out “I Hate Cancer Concert” since 2012\, with a small break for that pesky pandemic. For the third year\, she has shifted the focus to a rare disease that is very close to her heart. With Scleroderma being so under the radar\, she is thrilled to be shining a light on the nasty disease and raising much-needed funds that directly go to the SRF\, Scleroderma Research Foundation. \n Molly has been performing all her life\, with her favorite genre being Musical Theater. Since moving to Hood River\, she has been running “Music For Children” for many years. She has worked in comedy at The Groundlings in L.A. and The Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC. She is so excited to make you laugh and maybe make you cry and quite possibly pee a little. Here’s to the “Eleventh Annual Dumb Diseases Concert – Featuring Scleroderma”! \nThis one isn’t for the kids\, so get yourself a sitter and enjoy a night out!

SUMMARY:Signs of Protest
DESCRIPTION:Your voice matters. And sometimes\, it needs to be seen from across the street. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, you’ll design and create a bold\, reusable protest sign that clearly communicates your message and stands up to real-world use. We’ll focus on clarity\, strength\, and visual impact — because when you speak out\, your sign should carry just as much conviction as you do. \nYou’ll leave not only with a finished piece\, but with practical design skills you can use again and again — for marches\, rallies\, community events\, or any moment that calls for visible solidarity. \nWhat you will learn \nCore principles of effective protest design — how to use color\, contrast\, scale\, and negative space to make your message unmistakable. \n  \nTechniques for transferring and building your design on durable foam core for a sturdy\, reusable sign. \n  \nWeather-resistant color application methods so your sign remains bold\, legible\, and strong outdoors. \nAll materials are provided. This event is on a sliding scale so pay what you can. \nDate: Saturday April 11th \nTime: 3pm-5pm \nAges: 14+ \nCost: $10-$35 sliding scale \nLocation: Tokki Art Supply Classroom
