DESCRIPTION:Are you calligraphy curious? Hand-lettered calligraphy is a great skill to compliment your other creative practices. Once you learn the eight basic shapes that make up the modern calligraphy alphabet\, you’ll be well on your way to making beautiful lettering. Taught by Portland artist Molly Chidsey\, she will provide a workbook to guide you along on this process. \nIn this introductory workshop\, you will learn: \n1. What modern calligraphy is and how is it different from handwriting \n2. How to use a brush pen to create thick and thin contrasting lines that define calligraphy \n3. The eight essential shapes that make up the calligraphy alphabet \n4. How to form the letters of the lowercase alphabet (miniscules) and an overview of the upper-case alphabet (majuscules) \nSupplies needed: \nOne small-tip brush pen\, such as Tombow Fudenosuke or Pentel Touch (hard tip or soft tip ok) \nSmooth\, semi-translucent marker paper (Canson or similar) \nSmooth tracing paper (Canson or similar) \nDate: Sunday October 5 \nTime: 1pm-4pm \nAges: 14+ \nCost: $65 \nLocation: Tokki Art Supply Classroom – 208 4th st\, Hood River \nIf you cannot attend a class\, a 72 hour notice prior to the start of the class via email or phone is required for a full refund of the class fee. After that there is no refund. \nStudents will receive a confirmation email of the purchase of the class. Arthur Kipps\, a man forever haunted by a horrifying encounter\, hires a young actor to help him retell the events that shattered his life. Together\, they bring to life his time in a remote\, fog-shrouded English village\, where the desolate streets and creaking manor conceal a shadowy figure\, the Woman in Black. Her vengeful spirit seems to follow everyone who comes near\, and as Kipps recounts the story\, the two men (and the audience) are drawn into a web of supernatural dread where the line between the living and the dead grows terrifyingly thin. \nEvery flicker of light\, every whisper of wind\, and every haunting sound effect becomes a character in its own right\, amplifying the suspense and pulling you deeper into the story. The Woman in Black is not just a play; it is a masterclass in tension and fear\, an immersive theatrical experience where terror lurks in every shadow and even the smallest noise could herald something sinister. Robert Armstrong (Winters\, CA)  is a guitarist\, a master of Hawaiian Steel Guitar\, vocalist and founding\, and current\, member of the famous Cheap Suit Serenaders – not to mention a world famous cartoonist and illustrator. Hugh Fredericks is a Harmonica player from the infamous 1970’s Portland based Metropolitan Jug Band. \nBen and Hunter are locals you have probably seen around. \nWe’ll be playing blues\, swing and who knows what….!
