Plein Air Painting in the Columbia River Gorge

Join artist Cathleen Rehfeld for a 3-hour outdoor painting class in one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Pacific Northwest!

We’ll begin with a focused demonstration (30–45 minutes) where Cathleen will cover key concepts including color, value, perspective, composition, and techniques for creating a strong sense of atmosphere and distance in your paintings. She’ll also answer questions and help everyone get set up and focused. Cathleen will be painting in oils, but students are welcome to bring oil or gouache.

After the demo, students will paint on location while Cathleen circulates to provide individual guidance and feedback at your easel. This is a great opportunity to paint outdoors, learn practical skills, and capture the light and majesty of the Columbia River Gorge.

> Bring any specialty colors you would like

• Medium – Gamblin 3-in-1 (need small cup) or Gamblin Gel in a tube (if using oils)
• Brushes – various sizes 6 to 10 natural or synthetic
• Container for washing brushes (Metal airtight brush washer, or something similar)
• Gamsol (if using oils)
• Paper towels – Viva works best, and a small trash bag
• Panels – small sizes 5×7, 8×10, 10×10, 12×12 are good sizes to start with
• Wet Painting Carrier
• Sketchbook or pad
• Gray Markers or soft pencil

If you cannot attend a class, a 72 hour notice prior to the start of the class via email or phone is required for a full refund of the class fee. After that there is no refund.
