Illustrated Journaling: Creating a Visual Diary of Everyday Life

Tired of plain old journaling? Let’s give your sketchbook a glow-up with Illustrated Journaling! In this playful, creative workshop, you’ll learn how to turn everyday moments—the things you see, taste, notice, and love—into charming illustrated pages that tell your story visually.

We’ll explore how to gently mine your recent memories for sketch-worthy moments, break down common shapes, objects, and textures so they feel easy (and fun!) to draw, and experiment with different ways to organize your illustrated journal. You’ll see sample layouts and inspiration straight from the instructor’s own sketchbooks to spark ideas.

Along the way, you’ll build confidence with pencil sketching and inking, learn how to quickly bring your drawings to life with watercolor, and discover playful ways to annotate your pages with dates, banners, captions, and personal notes. By the end, your sketchbook will feel less like a blank page—and more like a colorful, illustrated keepsake of your everyday life.

What you will learn

·  How to pull inspiration from recent memories to uncover moments worth sketching

·  Playful ways to organize and design your illustrated journal pages inside your sketchbook

·  Approachable techniques for sketching, inking, and adding color to bring your drawings to life

·  Fun, expressive ways to annotate your pages with dates, descriptions, banners, and personal notes

Students should bring a mixed media sketchbook that is 6×8 inches. All other materials are provided.

If you cannot attend a class, a 72 hour notice prior to the start of the class via email or phone is required for a full refund of the class fee. After that there is no refund.
